Wind Organs

Low Newton beach, Northumberland, UK

Six steel pipes tuned to the six pitches of a whole-note scale, each with a hand-cast resin sound box, were installed on Low Newton beach in Northumberland for 24 hours going through a full tidal cycle. They were played by the wind, capturing the ambient sounds of their environment.

The organs were subsequently installed in an exhibition at Newcastle University, each lit up with their respective recording playing from within. The piece has since relocated to the Peak District, a South London garden, and my parent's garden in Dorset.
